Welcome to The Kingdom of Thailand

T wenty two hours of travel, three "Asian surprise" airplane meals, and innumerable Tylenol PMs later....we have arrived in the bustling, exciting city of Bangkok. Peeling off layers of clothes as we walked out of the terminal around 1pm Friday, Chars and I were ready to face the madness. We got visas, exchanged money ( 35 Baht for a dollar = SWEET), helped each other into our 85 pound, poorly packed hiking backpacks, and hit the street. Our taxi ride to the hotel consisted of 15 minutes of silence as we both stared out the windows trying to take in anything and everything that we sped past. I eventually got over the anxiety that our driver was on the wrong (right) side of the car, and the wrong (left) side of the street, and creating his own lanes on the "shoulder" of the packed highways. I'd also like to comment that, although we all know and hate the traffic which is LA, you can't even talk until you've seen it here.
Anyway, our hotel was lovely; almost 60 years old and used in many movies, The Atlanta was a perfect way to ease into the conditions that we will be living in for over two months. We got the last room they had available, which was airconditioned (thank buddha), and even had its own shower which dripped out cold water slowly. Fantastic! We went up to the room with our cold, fresh pinapple juices (WITH ice, WHICH i ate- oops), literally flopped our backpacks down, dug in to find our suits, changed, and were swimming within ten minutes of our arrival.
Ahh internet time is up, and off to go meet up with Adam and possibly Joey for lunch.
More later.
